Nutrition experts making a difference

Dietitians at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust are raising awareness of their profession during dietitians week, which is led by the British Dietetic Association (BDA).

The awareness week, which runs from 8 to 12 June aims to promote the work and value of dietitians. The team are running an information stand in the main concourse at the University Hospital of North Tees for patients and visitors promoting different areas of their work.

Each day people can find out information about the importance of diet for a healthy lifestyle. You can find out about healthy eating for adults and children, the effects of alcohol on your health, managing diabetes and the risks and information about diet and medical conditions.

Dietitian Cdietitianharlotte Codling said: “We will be raising the profile of the work which dietitians do to help people who are either in hospital or in the community.

“We are here to provide expert advice. We help people to manage their conditions and provide them with the information they need to make changes to their lifestyle.

“We provide people with practical guidance to help them make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.”

Professional lead dietitian Julie Higgins added: “I am proud to work with a great team of dedicated dietitians across Hartlepool and Stockton, who are making big contribution to the care of our patients.

“The campaign is the promotion of dietitians as the absolute gold standard, when it comes to food and nutrition they are the experts.”
