On 1 December, the trust is launching a new shuttle bus timetable.
This shuttle bus service remains free to use for patients, visitors and staff who are eligible to do so, however, needs to be pre-booked via the service desk on 01429 522550. Staff who have relocated base longer than 4 years ago are no longer eligible to use the free shuttle bus service.
Patients with restrictive health needs can also access the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) Patient Transport Service – assistance with booking this can be obtained from their GP. The Trust operates a free door-to-door volunteer driver service via the same service desk number, and should patients have financial difficulties then the cost of public transport or car parking charges incurred while attending hospital as a patient can be reimbursed under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS). Patients need to be in receipt of qualifying benefits to receive these HTCS reimbursements, which can be refunded via the hospital cashier service.
To supplement the trust’s shuttle bus, the taxi company 23 Taxis has agreed to run additional services for staff, visitors and patients between University Hospital of Hartlepool and University Hospital of North Tees. These routes will cost £3 per journey (shown below in pink), regardless of the time of day. Prices and times will vary on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. All bookings will be handled via 23 Taxis (01429 232323). The service from 23 Taxis will collect and drop off at the same locations as the Trust shuttle bus; at the hospital’s main entrance. Staff who remain eligible for free transport between sites may also book this alternative service if the trust shuttle times are unsuitable, this is done by contacting 23 Taxis, and staff would need to pay the fee to 23 Taxis and reclaim travelling expenses in the usual manner.
